Vincent
van Gogh’s Self-Portrait from the National Gallery of
Art
Norton
Museum of Art, 1451 South Olive Avenue, West Palm Beach,
FL 33401 / For the next several months the Norton Museum’s
celebrated painting by Paul Gauguin, Christ in the Garden
of Olives, 1889, will be featured in the exhibition Gauguin:
Maker of Myth at the Tate Modern, London, and the National
Gallery of Art, Washington, DC. In this work Gauguin portrayed
himself in a tragic, iconic mode as Jesus Christ in the Garden
of Gethsemane on the night of his betrayal by Judas Iscariot.
In a poignant reference to his attempted artistic liaison with
Vincent van Gogh, which had recently ended in a debacle, Gauguin
has given himself bright orange-red hair—like that of
his erstwhile colleague and friend. During much of our painting’s
absence from West Palm Beach the Museum will display, instead,
an almost exactly contemporaneous self-portrait by Van Gogh,
likewise painted in the immediate aftermath of the contentious
and aborted sojourn with Gauguin, at Arles, which lasted from
October through December 1888. The present Self-Portrait
is one of the very last of no fewer than 36 which Van Gogh executed
between his arrival in Paris and his suicide at the asylum in
Saint-Rémy in July 1890. More info: 561.832.5196 or more

Kings
of Leon
Cruzan Amphitheatre, 601-7 Sansburys Way, West Palm Beach, FL
33411 / Kings of Leon are made up of the Followill brothers (singer
Caleb, bassist Jared, drummer Nathan) and a cousin (guitarist
Matthew). The Followill brothers are sons of a preacher who were
raised on the road throughout the South and forbidden to listen
to secular music. When their father resigned from the church,
the boys relocated to Nashville and embraced the rock music they’d
previously been denied. Named for their father, Leon Followill,
the band formed in 2000. The boys began practicing and by 2002
Kings of Leon had interest from nine labels. A bidding war ensued,
with the band ultimately choosing RCA Records. In 2009, the group
landed their first Grammy award for Best Rock Performance by a
Duo or Group With Vocals for “Sex on Fire.” This year,
the hit single “Use Somebody” helped Kings of Leon
earn Grammys for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with
Vocal, Record of the Year and Best Rock Song. Buy

Roger
Waters
Bank
Atlantic Center, One Panther Parkway, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33323
/ Sunrise Sports & Entertainment announced that, due to an
incredible demand from South Florida entertainment fans, music
legend Roger Waters, co-founder and primary songwriter for Pink
Floyd, will play two shows at the Bank Atlantic Center. Both shows
are part of “The Wall Live," a monumental tour that
will commemorate the 30th Anniversary of The Wall. The
Wall has been previously performed live in its entirety by
Waters just 31 times including Pink Floyd's 1980-81 tour in support
of the album. A spectacular Roger Waters solo staging and performance
of the rock opera in July 1990, celebrating the fall of the Berlin
Wall, drew nearly a half million fans to the Potsdamer Platz.
The New York Times (March 2, 1980) declared that "The
Wall show remains a milestone in rock history, it will be the
touchstone against which all future rock spectacles must be measured."
Originally released in November 1979, The Wall was America's
top-selling album of 1980, is one of the top-selling double albums
of all time, and is still in the US Top 5 best-selling albums
of all time. The Wall was made into a metaphorical musical
film, directed by Alan Parker with screenplay by Roger Waters,
in 1982. One of the most profoundly influential albums in the
history of recorded music, The Wall continues to affect
pop culture while resonating with generations of music fans. 1998.

Vintage Show & Sale
Palm
Beach County Convention Center, 650 Okeechobee Boulevard,
Palm Beach, FL 33401/ We started off planning a Vintage Clothing
and Jewelry Show, but quickly realized that this was an entire
period of time when the most wonderful arts and lifestyle items
where created... it was the end of World War II, it was an exciting
and creative up beat period that some of us remember. We all love
what was designed at that time. It was the poodle skirt, it was
Danish Modern, fabulous jewelry with stones Tiffany never dreamed
of earlier in the century. And the most glamorous costume jewelry.
The period ends somewhere in the middle of the 70s. We will put
it all together for the 2nd Annual VINTAGE SHOW & SALE. Our
plans call for three separate areas, front to back in this very
large room. The first area is meant for the high end designer
items. The second for wonderful items, but not necessarily with
designer names and then the items for YOU and ME. Along with the
items on sale, the show will include guest lectures, book signings
and fabulous loan exhibit compliments of the Art Deco Society
of the Palm Beaches. Hours: Saturday ~ 10am - 7pm and Sunday ~
11am - 5pm. General Admission $12 - $2 discount with promotion
card. A portion of the ticket sales for the show will benefit
the Art Deco Society of the Palm Beaches. More info: 561-483-4047.
