The Color of Motion: Delray Beach Artist Leona Whitlow
Opening January 2nd, 2007
For Leona Whitlow, painting is an emotional and spiritual act. A former teacher of dance and expressive psychotherapy, she channels her creative energy into her art, using a combination of collage, water color, and acrylic to depict a range of subjects. Whitlow paints “from [her] heart”; “sometimes,” she explains, “I have a plan and sometimes I do not; sometimes I dream a painting and other times I am inspired by nature, architecture, or simply the beauty of my surroundings.” Whitlow’s abstract compositions are superbly textured, characterized by varied brushstrokes, mixed media, and intermingling tones. With varying degrees of abstraction, her creations are intensely personal and speak of the excitement she brings to her work. Leona Whitlow’s art has been displayed in venues along the East Coast from Florida through Massachusetts, and has won numerous awards. Whitlow lives and works in Delray Beach, Florida, where she actively participates in local and statewide art associations.
Whitlow's paintings will be on display from January 2 to January 23 in The Color of Motion, Agora Gallery, 530 West 25th Street, Chelsea, New York. The opening reception takes place on Thursday, January 4, 6-8 PM.
